EXPLORING THE LAND DOWN UNDER: A TEA EMPLOYEE’S TOUR OF AUSTRALIA

To help everyone at Tea “go there”, we make a yearly contribution to each employee for international travel and exploration. Upon their return, our Tea travelers write a blog post to share their adventures with all of us (and the world)! We’re so excited to introduce you to Kathryn, our Assistant Merchandiser for Girls Dresses and Leggings. Follow along as she shares tales from her trip to Australia!

Protect the Reef

From the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland to the Gondwanan Rainforest near Byron Bay, Australia is home to some of the oldest rainforests in the world. And underneath the waves, you can find many coral reefs surrounding the great island. Coral reefs are called the “rainforests of the sea” because of their incredibly diverse ecosystem.

The Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Queensland, is the world’s largest coral reef that supports a huge diversity of life, including many vulnerable and endangered species. From coral to whales, clownfish and seagrass, so many beautiful and important species call the reef their home. Unfortunately over time, the reef’s health has been threatened due to many causes including climate change, pollution and fishing.

Willems head Down Under

To help everyone at Tea “go there,” we make a yearly contribution to each employee for international travel and exploration. Upon their return, our Tea travelers write a blog post to share their adventures with all of us (and the world)! We’re so excited to introduce you to LaDonna, our Copy Director (she writes all the beautiful words you read in our catalog, online and in emails) and all-around amazing human being. Follow along as she shares tales from her families trip to Australia!

A Rainforest Expedition on Fitzroy Island

Take the ferry 45 minutes out to sea from Cairns, Australia, and you’ll find yourself on the tiny island of Fitzroy, a lush rainforest oasis surrounded by white coral beaches and brilliant blue waters that are part of the Great Barrier Reef. It was on this unspoiled tropical island that Tea and the King family join forces with National Geographic Explorer Jess Cramp. Jess flew in from her home base in the Cook Islands to explore the rainforest, snorkel the reef, and show us how to be scientists.

Every Day is an Adventure

Exploring is always more fun when you bring friends along. For our adventures on Australia’s Fitzroy Island near the Great Barrier Reef, we invited the King family to join us. Stu and Elizabeth have been married for 10 years. He works in tech, she’s a doctor, and although they call Queensland home, they’ve lived all over the world. Stu is originally from South Africa, while Elizabeth is from Australia, which is where the couple first met.
