Our Expedition to Patagonia

F15_TripPic_JT_5042

At the very southern end of South America, spanning all of Argentina and part of Chile, lies a sparsely populated region called Patagonia. To the west you’ll find the Andes mountains and Pacific Ocean, to the east the steppes and grasslands and Atlantic Ocean. We visited Patagonia, trekked the frozen blue wonderland of the Perito Moreno Glacier and explored the wild steppe with an intrepid guide names Julian, who showed us lots of Criollo horses, wild herds of guanaco, super-fast jackrabbits and a gigantic Andean condor. Come on a journey with us as we share stories of trekking a glacier, riding in a jeep over the barren grasslands of the Patagonia steppe and finding inspiration in the smallest details.

Our Guide to Buenos Aires

BUENOS AIRES_LW_080It’s easy to fall in love with Buenos Aires. The sounds of Tango music in the streets of San Telmo, the scent of the panaderías and their sweet treats and all of the beautiful architecture… What’s not to love? When our design team took their inspiration trip through Argentina, they were able to experience the sights and sounds of the many barrios (or neighborhoods) of Buenos Aires. Here, we’ve rounded up some of their favorite things to eat, do, see and places to shop if you ever find yourself in the “Paris of South America“.

Walking Through Walls – Leigh Rawdon

This season, Tea is partnering with The Global Fund for Children to give back to several organizations located in South America. This month, we’re featuring the Asociación Civil Los Pioneros in Callao, Peru. Tea CEO, Leigh Rawdon, was fortunate to be able to take a trip to Los Pioneros and meet the wonderful children the grantee works with. Here, she shares her story with us.

Strolling the Markets of La Paz, Bolivia

LaPAZ_LW_040

Whenever we travel to a new destination, we strive to completely immerse ourselves in the local culture as it’s the best way to gain the most authentic and well-rounded experience. We eat where the locals eat, shop where the locals shop and talk to as many people as we can to make real connections. While visiting La Paz, Bolivia, we were immediately drawn to the allure of the mercados (or markets). Early each morning, the streets of La Paz begin to buzz with activity. As the sun rises, women from the indigenous tribes (called cholitas) living in the hills surrounding the town, head towards the city. Dressed in brightly colored traditional clothing, the cholitas set up their shops along the street. They sell everything from produce, handicrafts, souvenirs and meals. We watched as people from different parts of the city came to the town center to shop for their daily meals and household goods. Shopping in La Paz as a tourist can be a hectic experience, but exploring them is a great way to feel like a local. Here is a roundup of the markets we visited and tips on when to go and what to find.
