There’s a lot to love about winter—toasty layers, steaming mugs, festive lights, family gatherings, and snowflakes if you’re lucky! It’s a magical time of year meant for celebration, togetherness, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
One of our favorite past times is snuggling up in our coziest PJs with a good bedtime story. And what better way to wind down than with a warm and fizzy bath? Plop in one of our DIY bedtime bath bombs for a relaxing and fragrant tub time treat. Not only are these a cinch to make, but they’re all-natural, your little ones will love them, and they make for a thoughtful homemade holiday gift! Follow along for a simple step-by-step.
How to Make Your Own Bedtime Bath Bombs
What You’ll Need
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 1/3 cup Epsom salt
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 2 teaspoons water
- 8-10 drops organic essential oil
- 3-4 drops all-natural food coloring
- 2 mixing bowls
- Whisk
- Bath bomb mold
Step 1: Combine your baking soda, citric acid and Epsom salts in a medium bowl and whisk together to remove any clumps.
Step 2: In a separate bowl, mix coconut oil, water, the essential oil (we chose a lovely lavender scent) and food coloring.
Step 3: Slowly add liquid mixture to baking soda mixture one teaspoon at a time, mixing as you go. (NOTE: Be sure to add the liquid slowly so it doesn’t activate the solution.)
Step 4: Once all your liquid is added, mix everything together with a whisk (or your hands!) until thoroughly combined. The mixture should begin to clump together.
Step 5: Grab a handful of the mixture and squeeze between your palm. It should hold its shape without crumbling. If not, add a few light sprays of water, mix and repeat until the mixture is moist enough to mold.
Step 6: Now it’s time to fill your mold! We chose this special (and rather intricate) sheep mold to match our Baa Baa pajamas, but you can choose to create any shape you want. Fill the mold bit by bit with the mixture, pressing and patting firmly with your fingers until tightly packed. Pro tip: If using a more intricate mold, apply a thin coat of coconut oil to the interior before adding your mix.
Step 7: Place in the freezer and let set for 30 minutes.
Step 8: Once set, it’s time to reveal your creation! Carefully remove the bath bomb from the mold immediately after taking it out of the freezer. Enjoy right away, or store in a cool, dry place for future fizzy fun.
